About Us
Founded in 2014, the University Gilbert & Sullivan Society (UGSS) seeks to provide educational and performance experiences to Indiana University students each year through various events.
UGSS has recently returned to IU Bloomington in 2023 after a brief hiatus post pandemic. Since regrouping we have held various events such as a screening of H.M.S Pinafore, Trivia, Educational Lectures, and a Cabaret. Looking ahead, we hope to continue the tradition of producing a fully-staged Gilbert & Sullivan work soon!
This completely student-run organization presents unique opportunities to get involved across every aspect of a show’s production, from performing on stage or in the orchestra, to costume design, to directing, and administrative aspects. This allows students to not only cultivate their stagecraft as performers, but also gain valuable professional skills applicable to any career in the arts and culture industry.
As a young grassroots organization, UGSS places tremendous value on its relationships with the community. The joy of sharing the energy, merriment, and singular style of Gilbert & Sullivan with the people around us is what makes our student organization tick it lies at the core of why we do what we do.
We are very grateful to our past partner organizations, which include Cardinal Stage Company, New Voices Opera, Aver's Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Jimmy Johns, and Jackson Creek Middle School. And most recently we would like to thank Constellation Stage & Screen and Crumble Coffee and Bakery for their support.
